The Joy of Reading (or Listening) for FREE

When was the last time you read a classic book? "I don't have time to read." you reply. Has the financial crunch put books low on your priority list? Would you love a Kindle, but just can't afford one? I offer you the following alternatives;

Project Gutgenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page) has over 27,000 titles available. This includes books in text and HTLM format, and some audio books. They also offer some musical scores, and a link to classical Archives (classicalarchives.com). According to the Wikipedia, Classic Archives,

"It has, as of December 10, 2006, 40,055 full-length classical music files by 2,093 composers.

People must register to listen to the music on the site. Non - paying users are allowed to access or download 5 MIDI or Free Play files a day. Subscribers pay a fee of 25 dollars a year for unlimited access. They are allowed to access or download 1,000 files per month or 100 files per day of any kind."

LibriVox's (http://librivox.org/) goal is "s to make all public domain books available as free audio books". They currently have 1972 audio books and are adding more each day. If podcasts are how you get your audio files, then all you have to do is subscribe to the type of feeds you want to hear. You choices for feeds include; books, community, short stories, poetry, and new releases.

Don't forget the Library. Your public library has books, movies, and audio books for free. You can reserve books on line, and have them waiting for you. You can borrow unusual books from other libraries and just go pick them up!

Turn off the TV! Expand your mind! Explore the world of books and music for FREE!
